Tease – Remember.
 
Tease was formed in 1979 in California. When they performed in a talent show organized by Los Angeles radio station KACE, they were discovered by record label RCA and they signed a record deal in 1983. At that time Tease consists of: Kipper Jones (lead vocals), Derek Organ (drums), Thommy Organ (guitar), Cornelius Sims (bass, followed by Jay Shankin in 1986) Rex Salas (keyboards) and Joseph Parson (guitar). Chuckii Booker replaced Rex in 1986 and played the keys on their second album ‘Tease’. Their third album ‘Remember’ was produced by James Mtume.
Tease released between 1983 and 1986 in total three albums. The first album released in the eighties was their self titled album Tease (RCA 1983). And again Tease in 1986 for Epic. The third and last album Tease recorded was Remember on Epic in 1988. During their career from 1983 till 1986 Tease released also four singles. The first single was Flash on RCA records. Other released singles are ‘Baby Be Mine (1986 Epic), Better Wild Than Mild (1986 Epic), Firestarter (1986 Epic) and from the album Remember the most successful single was a cover version of Ann Peebles’ song, “I Can’t Stand the Rain” which peaked at #34 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart in April 1988 and staying on the chart for 11 weeks.
Tease plays a mix of bassy, funky, electro groove with Kipper Jones as leadvocalist. Some of their albums remind us of the funkier pop soul sounds coming out of Minneapolis in the mid 80s, but Tease came from the west coast scene with beats, keys, synth, bass and soulful vocals driving it. Nice stuff that’s well worth checking out!
When Tease broke up at the end of the 80’s era most of their members went all for solo careers in writing or producing. Only Kipper Jones went for a solo career and as a singer he released an album on Virgin Records with two chart singles on the R&B Charts.
Derek Organ has performed on various artists’ albums such as Atlantic Starr, Janet Jackson, Vernessa Mitchell, C.O.D., Brandy, Mariah Carey, 2Pac and Jade MacRae. Thomas Organ has performed on various artists’ albums such as Thelma Houston, Patti Austin, Alexander O’Neal, Chico DeBarge, Geoffrey Williams, Grady Harrell, Portrait, Brandy, and Jade MacRae.
Jay Shanklin has written and produced music for C.O.D., Front Page and Herbie Hancock.
Josef Parson has performed on various artists’ albums such as Patti Austin, Fire Fox, Wild Orchid and LV.
Rex Salas has become a well-known record producer, songwriter, musical director, and music arranger who has worked with artists such as Robert Palmer, Janet Jackson, Maxwell, Brandy, Sheena Easton and Brian McKnight.
As for Chuckii Booker, he went on to have a successful solo career, scoring two #1 R&B hits and working as a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumen¬talist.
