Nick Cave & The Birthday Party - Amsterdam 1981 Live
The Birthday Party was an Australian band fronted by Nick Cave.
Leading the Melbourne post-punk scene with their provocative performances, they made the move to Europe in 1980.
Nick Cave quickly made a name for himself with his bellowing vocals and explosive performance style, bouncing around the stage.
The Birthday Party is remembered for their harsh pounding rock music laced with guitar feedback and often ironic lyrics.
Here they take over an abandoned church in Amsterdam.
A perfect setting since Cave used Old Testament imagery with lyrics about sin, debauchery and damnation.
