LPs “Check Your Mind!” and “Times Have Changed” represent the transition between lead singers Curtis Mayfield and Leroy Hutson within The Impressions. Curtis sang leads on “Check Out Your Mind” released in 1970, the year he went solo with “Superfly”. The album contains some two remakes of 1960s recordings, but mainly new original songs representing the genius of Curtis Mayfield in his prime.
On “Times Have Changed”, Curtis sought solace with fledgling singer and songwriter Leroy Hutson and the album became the only one on which Leroy featured as an Impression for Curtom. Each song is of the very highest standard with the great vocals of Fred, Sam and Leroy combining with wonderful orchestrated works of art. Both these albums should be an essential part of every soul fans collection. Love Vinyl and Expansion are honoured to be releasing both albums on CD because Curtom Records are held in the highest esteem as one of the greatest soul labels of all time and the Impressions are one of the finest champions of the music we love.
