Deze Glasgowse band werd in 2001 opgericht door bassist Bob Hardy, gitarist Nick McCarthy, drummer Paul Thomson en zanger/gitarist Alex Kapranos met het doel meisjes aan het dansen te krijgen. Of zoiets. Feit is dat de dansbare discopunk die het viertal ten gehore bracht erg aansloeg.
